Right from the get-go, our family was impressed with your level of quality. The estimates you gave us were timely and comprehensive, addressing all of our questions and explaining things in terms we could understand. Plus, you really kept to the budget, despite unforeseen complications, which was a godsend. Hugh Cummings and his team have done several projects for us - whether large or small, they has approached each job with professionalism and skill. The largest of these was insulating and finishing the 3rd floor of our Victorian home. When Hugh bid on the job, he knew exactly what needed to be done, from the height of the knee walls to where the outlets and switches should be. And yet, he was responsive to our special requests and made them work. He and his crew arrived on time each morning. They worked normal business hours. They accomplished the job with a minimum of disruption and with good humor. On Friday afternoons the floors were swept and equipment was neatly stacked in the corner, this in a room that we weren't using. The space was renovated a year ago and it still takes my breath away.
We know that when we hire Hugh the job will be done properly - his aesthetic is unerring and it is a pleasure to work with him.

Hugh is on the way to becoming LEED certified. In the interim he is familiar with Green materials and will uses them and go as far as you'd like to go. He also is a big believer in re-using materials. In fact, he built our son a sand box (out of cedar logs) and the cover out of the cedar walls from the old bathroom that he renovated.

All I have to say about Hugh is positive. We hired him to build my art studio and I couldn't be happier. I'm writing from that place right now. Hugh is a rare bird I would say. It's so unusual to find someone with so many qualities combined. He's smart, talented, reliable, gentle but firm at the same time, great at dealing with people, and he likes to do things right. When we moved from California to NY we didn't know any contractor so our real estate agent recommended Hugh. She's not the kind of person who would recommend just anyone so I knew that he was going to be good. But he ended up exceeding our expectations. We are so happy with the work that he and his crew did, that very soon he's coming back to work on another project. It makes a great difference when you can trust someone like we trust Hugh.
